The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (popularly known as Yayi), has officially named Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun as his running mate for the 2027 gubernatorial election. While introducing her to party members, Adeola described her as a dependable partner who will work alongside him to advance the development of Ogun State.
The announcement took place on Sunday at the APC State Secretariat located on Abiola Way in Abeokuta, the state capital. The event drew several prominent party figures, including incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun, State Chairman Chief Yemisi Sanusi, Senator Gbenga Kaka, and Senator Akin Odunsi, among other key stakeholders.
Mrs. Adegunwa-Balogun, who comes from Ososa in the Ogun East Senatorial District, is the daughter of Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, a well-known Nigerian industrialist, businessman, and philanthropist.
Characterizing his running mate as a disciplined, principled, and seasoned professional, Senator Adeola stated that her expertise will be vital in sustaining the progress made by Governor Abiodun's administration. He noted that her selection followed a rigorous decision-making process involving extensive discussions with party leaders and stakeholders across the state.
This announcement comes roughly two months after Senator Adeola emerged as the APC's consensus candidate, a position that was later formalized through a direct primary election held across all 236 wards in Ogun State.
During the stakeholders' meeting, Governor Abiodun raised a motion to formally adopt Mrs. Adegunwa-Balogun as the party’s deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election. The motion was carried unanimously by a voice vote from the attendees.
In her response, Adegunwa-Balogun expressed her appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senator Solomon Adeola, and the broader party leadership for trusting her with the joint ticket.
