Ethiopia Earns $546 Million from Coffee Exports in Two Months

Ethiopia generated 546 million US dollars from coffee exports over the past two months after shipping more than 80,000 tonnes, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.

The Authority’s director-general, Adugna Debela (PhD), said the figure marks a strong start to the 2025/26 fiscal year. He noted that in the previous fiscal year, Ethiopia exported 470,000 tonnes of coffee, earning 2.26 billion dollars. The country now aims to raise exports to 600,000 tonnes and revenues to 3 billion dollars this year.

Adugna said ongoing reforms in the coffee supply chain have allowed more direct sales from producers to international buyers, helping streamline the export process. The government has also moved quality inspection closer to production areas, decentralising what was previously done mainly in Addis Ababa.

He added that new coffee washing and grading centres established near farms are improving product quality and boosting farmers’ earnings.
