Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has criticized British Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, for allowing Nigerian police officers to protect her mother in Lagos, despite her negative views about them.
Fani-Kayode argued that Badenoch is unfit to serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He accused the Nigerian-British politician of tarnishing the reputation of the Nigerian Police while overlooking the systemic racism within the UK police force.
Badenoch has expressed trust in the British police while claiming Nigerian officers stole her brother’s watch and shoes. However, Fani-Kayode pointed out that she fails to acknowledge the history of institutional racism and corruption in UK policing, where black people, including Nigerians, have suffered from unfair treatment, persecution, and even death. He also highlighted the prevalence of violent knife crimes in the UK, which police often ignore, especially when the victims are black.
The APC chieftain also took issue with Badenoch’s views on colonialism and immigration. He questioned why, if she distrusts Nigerian police so much, she continues to insist that they protect her family in Lagos instead of bringing British police to do the job.
Fani-Kayode further criticized Badenoch for her controversial stance on colonialism, suggesting she believes Nigeria was better off under British rule. He also pointed out her opposition to immigration, despite being a first-generation immigrant herself, and her denial of reparations for African and Caribbean countries affected by the transatlantic slave trade.
