The husband of a deceased patient, Christopher Owegie has apologised to the Association of Resident Doctors at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for assaulting one of their members.
In a statement, he said “I, Christopher Owegie, wish to express my deepest apology to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital’s resident doctors for the incident that occurred with one of the members at the hospital on April 6th, 2024.
“The action I took and the words I used were inappropriate and disrespectful and I regret my actions as well as the way I handled the death of my beloved wife.
“I was opinionated regarding the medical issues that led to her death, which triggered my emotions.”
Owegie was said to have taken her wife to UBTH in an unconscious state and necessary tests and examination were still going on when his wife died and in the process pounced on doctors around including the one attending to his wife.
The case was subsequently reported to the police station for necessary action.
