Following Supreme Court judgement over lingering conflict between a PDP lawmaker, Hon Abdulraheem Agboola and the Kwara State House of Assembly, a leading Pro Democracy group, Kwara Must Change has urged the Speaker, Hon Danladi Umar to swear in the embattled PDP lawmaker.

The group also said that In December 2019, Kwara Must Change had made similar call to the State Assembly and it is reinforcing its position again today.

In a statement by Kwara Must Change convener, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, the group stated that, it is a known fact that Court of Appeal is the last bus stop in any electoral matter concerning legislative houses and the Appeal Court has given its judgement on Ilorin South state constituency in favour of PDP, which is final and binding on all institutions.

According to Hamzat,
“If the Court of Appeal judgement didn’t convince the house leadership enough on why they need to swear in Agboola, the latest Supreme Court judgement has made it clear beyond any reasonable doubt that the Court of Appeal judgement is the final judgement for legislative electoral dispute and that judgement needs to be complied with immediately.

Kwara Must Change maintained that, immediately Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in compliance with Court judgement withdrew certificate of return from APC candidate and presented it to PDP candidate, he automatically became Ilorin South state constituency representative in the eyes of the law.

Hamzat further stated that, democracy won’t favor individuals sometimes, but it needs to be respected nonetheless.

Kwara Must Change therefore urges the Speaker, Hon Danladi Umar to swear in the PDP candidate and put a close to this chapter.
