PHYSICAL PLANNING MINISTRY CONSTITUTES DESIGN TEAM.
As part of efforts to accellerate the achievement of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development has constituted a seventeen-member Physical Planning
Design Team that will come up with design initiatives and make appropriate recomendations to the ministry.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako while unveiling members of the Team in Alausa on Tuesday.
The Commissioner said that the Team would be responsible for developing different Planning concepts for the preparation of Action Area or Local Plans for any identified Planning subject, selected for planning intervention with a view to solving identified physical, cultural and socio- economic problems.
He added that members were expected to work as a team to discuss the planning concepts and prepare alternative plans for implementation, based on the preferred concept.
The Team is also to produce an implementable Action Area and Local Plans or any planning subject identified by the State.
He urged the novel Team to set to work in earnest and consider as priority the preparation of design strategy to guide the development of the area adjoining the Agbowa Timberville, earmarked for the relocation of Okobaba plank market and work with the Lagos State Urban Renewal Authority(LASURA) and the ministry to envision the implementation of the Action Area Plan for Okobaba in Ebute- Metta.
He also charged the Team to come up with implementable plan that will guide the development of the communities( as depicted by Oto Action Area Plan) surrounding the National Theatre, which is already receiving Federal Government attention.
He added that the Team should earnestly develop strategy that would ensure the creation of buffer zones between Tank firms and the host communities and as well encourage Corporate Social Responsibility on the part of the Tank firms.
“This team should also proactively consider bringing out concepts to control developments around the Lekki Free Trade Zone among other responsibilities” he said.
He enjoined the Team to ensure that they add value to the quest for sustainable environment in the State by approaching the assignments with commitment, diligence and integrity.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Hon. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba admonished members of the Planning Design Team to accord the assignment the seriousness it deserved as the ability to multitask would be required to succeed.
The Permanent Secretary, Arc. Foluso Dipe urged members of the team to make good use of the opportunity by contributing their qouta towards the achievement of livable, orderly and sustainable physical environment in Lagos State.
Members of the team are drawn from the various professions in the built environment, including Town Planners, Architects and Engineers.
