Thugs allegedly loyal to the embattled deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, have been fingered in the attack on a bus conveying election materials for Apoi wards, in Ese-Odo Local Government Area.
The thugs were said to have been led by one Adebayo Ezekiel popularly known as “Denge” a staunch supporter of the deputy Governor and the Zenith Labour Party(ZLP) in the area.
It was reliably gathered that the Deputy Governor is supporting the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the councillorship seat of Apoi Wards 1 and 2 in the local government election.
It , however, took the intervention of the security agencies in the area to foil the materials from being carted away.
Meanwhile, the party of the Deputy Governor, ZLP, is not participating in the election according to local observers in the area.
“I am surprised some thugs loyal to Hon. Ajayi want to hijack and disrupt the otherwise peaceful election in this area.
“One wonders why the Deputy Governor will descend this low in a local council poll in which his party is not participating. What will now happen on October 10 when he is a major contender?”, an observer who pleaded anonymity said.
At the time of filing this report, voting had already begun.
